Building a new side deck

Pop and Matt got to talking about home improvements and Matt said he was going to put in a wood deck on the side patio to overcome the out-of-level concrete, and Pop said "Why not do it now?"

The wood was sitting in the back yard when I arrived on Saturday, and the three bearded youth (Ian, Joe Boone, and Chris Norden) had already helped Matt frame in the footing. They worked better with tools.

I fed ten-foot 2x4's of redwood to Ian, who first measured them and then cut them to 9'2".
