Gerald B. Campbell in World War II: Back home
He got home just after the 1945 World Series--he listened to the games on the troop ship. Hank Greenberg got out of the military midway through the season and re-joined the Detroit Tigers and led them to the American League pennant and a World Series victory over the Chicago Cubs.
