Misha and I drove down to Monterey to attend a re-enactment of the Battle of Aachen (October 22, 1944). Combined British and US forces overcame strong resistence by
German troops in house-to-house battle through the city of Aachen.
The re-enactment was held in the rotting remnants of old Fort Ord. 600 of us spectators paid $10 each (every
cent of which went to a scholarship program at Cal State Monterey Bay). Our role in the battle: we were the German civilians that the soliders would be defending.
For the first hour the re-enactors paraded in front of the reviewing stand where we sat and answered questions.
Anders Hudson, one of the senior guys among the re-enactors, is a graphic designer at Zircon in his day job.
