It was Horst's last night in America, or nearly--he left for Frankfort on the red-eye flight on Thursday morning. Scott and Eric also showed up, along with me and Mark and Chuck Heger and Tony Rossetti and Alanna and Christina and Louise. Horst bought his new car in December and now it turns out he can't ship it to Germany without penalty until he's owned it six months. We pretended to squabble about who would take custody of the Porsche convertible for him until the time expires. Today was Eric's first day at his new job at a manufacturer of GPS systems. Scott was late for the meeting, coming back from a consulting gig in San Mateo. Horst discussed how hard it has been to bring East Germany into the West German economy. He's going to live in Köln and be a consultant helping overseas manufacturers sell their products in America. |
