Abex Aerospace
Bert, the manager of the miniature hydraulic valve division at Abex, was nervous because he'd been told to put a full page ad into Aviation Week magazine to announce Abex's new product line.
Then he was more nervous when the creative consultant (me) was brought in, and I didn't know a single thing about hydraulic flapper nozzle valves. I learned from him what miniature valves were for and who wanted them and the whole corporate reputation; then I made an ad that their agency produced and placed.
(I also hand-built the models in the chessboard scene from scratch.)
Bert's phone started ringing immediately; a month after the ad ran I was in the building again planning a brochure for another division; Bert came out of his office and stopped me in the hall and shook my hand and thanked me. He'd never had such response.
Abex Enters The Miniature Valve Game
Miniature electrohydraulic servovalves operate wherever small size and low cost are the primary criteria: flight control surfaces on drones and cruise missiles, rotor pitch controls for helicopters, and nose gear controls on commuter aircraft. Each year, the aerospace industry requires 10,000 of these miniature valves.
Now Abex has developed a more cost-effective miniature valve that conforms to all generally accepted military and commercial specitications. We did it by making it simpler.
Abex designed this flapper nozzle servovalve using
a minimum of parts. Its design incorporates features easing adjustments during manufacturing and testing. And,
the spool moves in a sleeve that is an integral part of the body of the valve, rather than being a separate part.
With fewer manufacturing steps, Abex is able to deliver a lower-cost valve.
A limited number of these new Abex model 403 miniature servovalves are now available on a consignment basis to selected companies for evaluation and testing. Production deliveries begin this summer.
The reliability of Abex Jet-Pipe valves is the standard of the industry; we've put the same quality and attention to detail into our new valve.
