All the Last Details
There are many programs in our new Master Plan; the folder at the end of this brochure has individual details and scheduling information.
We want a new reptile house. We plan to turn the old one into an insectarium. We'll renovate the capybara house, and put up a pole flight cage for the toucans. We need better facilities for our seabird rehabilitation program.
A lot of the details have to do with unglamorous but necessary things like fencing and sewers and workshops for the train and zoo maintenance. The completed zoo will have upgraded facilities for the handicapped, more public restrooms, improved
pathways, a computer, a renovated parking lot, and a machine to clean the parking lot and pathways.
The important thing in the zoo will always be the animals. If it were not for the zoos, people would have no idea what a real elephant or tiger is like, since no picture, no matter how vivid, no list of measurements or other description, can take the place of seeing the actual animal. The Santa Barbara Zoo will be a progressive and modern zoo: a park for people, and also a park for wild creatures.
